Today was the last day for enumeratng in our area, we fnished all the closeouts this afternoon.

I am sad, I really enjoyed this job, and met alot of really nice people.

I know that the next phase is scheduled to start in the next week or 2. They did not collect my bag, badge etc- I am on the list to work the next phase.

I finished up enumerator training yesterday.

We went out for 1 hour to do enumeratoring. A few people did get some people home and got eq's filled out.

I was very nervous but once i did one I was much better and started feeling ok with it.

I did not find anyone home where went/some of the houses were empty. I went back out today for a couple hrs and was able to get 3 eq's filled out.

U r suppose to get 1 per hour and so I guess the 3 hrs I was out(both days)was ok.

We have to meet with the crew leader daily to turn in your payroll paper and the EQ's that you have completed

I just want to say that our crew leader was soooooo good. She was so good that u would of never known she just started and we were her first training class.

I just finished the enumerator training class today. There was nothing hard about the class.

Our leader was very good and organized. You would never known that she was just trained 2 wks before-very professional.

I was hired as an enumerator but was put up to asst leader 2 days after training class started

There was a 30 question open book quiz at the end. It was very easy/you could miss 10 and still pass (I missed 4 and got 85%)

Here's the deal: you need at least a 26 to get called to go to the training class. PAY ATTENTION to this: the training class is difficult and fast paced. There is a test at the end of the class. They don't tell you about the test until the last minute. SCOOP: THE TEST IS IN THE BACK OF THE LEGAL SIZE WORKBOOK that get you get the first day. I didn't know and nearly failed even though the test is open book. Do the test at night during the class.

They are still allowing people to take the supervisor test even though they aren't hiring any more supervisors! They are committed to "promoting from within.

I personally know two people who were promoted to supervisor without taking the supervisor test. They knew some insider "dirt" about the LCO manager's private life so he promoted them to supervisor and they didn't have to take the test.

The whole thing is a corrupt disaster costing American taxpayers billions of dollars.

After being retired for 7 months I decided it was time to do something, so I applied for work at the census. Took the test twice to get a decent score, took the pass/fail supervisor’s test cause that seemed like more fun. Was “hired” as a crew leader (“cl” cause now we have learned acronyms) and started training today. Being a federal retiree it was easy to forget how dreadfully inefficient the system can be. Most happily the census bureau (cb) welcomed me back to the inefficiencies.

Oh, we started promptly and the field office supervisor (FOS) was nice enough. So we started with a cb created document that I was supposed to correct and the issues sprung up, i.e., “previous federal service, No, federal retiree, YES.” So I asked the FOS about the apparent inconsistency and he said that, although I have 18 years of previous federal experience, NO was still the correct answer (good thing, I thought, I had just seen Alice in Wonderland). The training technique was called verbatim, meaning the FOS would read a manual word for word to us and we were to keep rapt attention. Oh, we were warned that a cell phone ringing would mean immediate termination. Well, I don’t have a cell phone so I was safe – nope, I was told I had to get a cell phone for the job. There go my years of innocence.

So we struggled to stay awake for two hours, till 10:30, when the finger printer appeared with his ample blue gloves and rolls and rolls of paper towels. I have been printed before, several times now that I think about it, but never like this. First the printer would take the prints, making sure each was clearly taken without blobs, with all the bumps, ridges and swirls blatantly visible. Each finger and thumb, on each hand, separately and together. When in doubt, the taker would take another, over and over putting little white patches over the mistakes. He was the expert, after all, this being the second time he had taken fingerprints. When finally done, we went to line two, where the FOS, also with no experience, would do the exact same process again, over and over and, as a retired engineer, he had to get it just right, although just right was never defined. But why do it twice? My years of federal experience tell me that once, maybe two censuses ago (20 years), in one office somewhere, someone had one instance of one finger being unreadable. Someone, probably in the central office, won a coffee cup by the wonderful suggestion that prints be taken twice, just in case. I hope she enjoys her Maxwell house instant.

Got to leave for lunch and hurried back. We had already taken the census oath to protect the United States and keep all census stuff confidential. So I was not about to be late, Alice. I dreamed that the clubhouse where we were getting trained was suddenly being attacked by those anti-census people, with their grey hair and shrill voices arguing about the necessity of a census. Unfortunately, I pulled up to park only to find the assaulters to be a dad and his three year old throwing bread to the ducks. Dang, there I was, armed with my newly printed id card displayed on its appropriate lanyard, and no one to defend against. Perhaps later.

The afternoon dragged on, with us each given a box to be used when, as experienced cl, we were to train enumerators next week. But not before we spent two hours on how to fill out the payroll slip and how never, never, never work more than 40 hours a week or one would be terminated. (hopefully, if wanted, more to follow)

I took the supervisor test today and scored rather poorly - 16/29. I felt the bulk of questions were subjective and specific to their protocol. I scored 28/28 on the basic test, which was basic skills. I would like to discuss the supervisor test with anyone who scored very high on it, as I have no way to "check my work."

On application it asks what hrs available. nights,weekends etc. If you didn't want to work then u should of not applied-you should not of said available all hrs and all days.

This is a job opportunity, even if only temporary work. It will put food on your table and a roof over your head

It kind of feels like too good to be. As one of the people that does some hiring wrote even the ones that score high on their tests are still not guaranteed to get any work. Plus if you are "flexible" I would beware because they will want you to be available "anytime" and especially nights and weekends. Ugh come on you know there are many people home during the days and not just at night. Plus at night time you will get a lot more pissed off people because it's night time. Come on just let us work DAYS. Probably have to be available 24/7. Yes we want to work but at the same time we also have LIVES, don't want to have to be slaves and have to be readily available for just "whenever". I also the Census is kind of like a gotcha because they know how desperate people are to work and so I think the gotcha is be "availble" anytime 24/7 7 days a week.

Jenny I took the test today. I answered all the rwenty eight questions without guessing any. Yet I got a score of only 80. Last friday I guessed atleast 2 or thrree questions. I got a score of 90. A few days ago I guessed atleast five. I got a score of 80 just like today. TWO WEEKS AGO I got a sore of only 72. I guessed a lot of answers. About the underlining You were supposed to figre out the unit that was vacant. The vacant units are double underlined. The correct answer is west and than north. Not north and than west. That path is not a straight forward path. you get in to trouble once you reach the west corner. you have to come south and west again.

To Amanda YES I can tell you about the H question. The ujnits that are vacant or blanks are listed as double underlined. The double underlined units mean vacant Units. But the scoring is bogus. I can prove it. They do bot score your answers. They place a yellow sheet that is supposed to be exactly like the sheet you used to answer the questions but on which the correct answers are marked. The Proctor places this yellow sheet over your answers and places a red mark on your sheet over the answers on that sheet. If the read mark is in a blank space over our answer sheet that means you answered the question wrong. But the proctor does not align the the sheet properly on your answers. You may have wrong answers and get aligned with correct answers on the yellow sheet. You'll get 100. I took the test four times. First time I guessed 8 out of 28 5times. I got a sore of 72. The second time again I guessed the dsame number of times I got a score of 80. The third time I guessed only twice. I got a score of 90. To day I did not guess any. I knew the answers to every questions. I got a score of only 80. I'm not going to bother taking the test again. I do not like the way they grade your answers. I do not want to waste my time. I've tried my best. The practice test is much simpler than the actual test. It does not help you with the actual test.

Got an offer about a month ago but turned it down cause I didn’t want to speak Spanish. Got another offer on 3/8 but they only gave me three hours to call them and the job was already gone. Got an offer today and start getting trained on 3/29 for a crew leader job. I asked if that was the best I could do and was told that the only other positions would be enumerators that they would be filling in two weeks. Pays 23 an hour and fifty cents a mile. I got 100 and also passed supervisor's test.

I got a 95 and I said debatable for controversial. Every thesaurus confirms it. If an enumerator ask a person "who do you live with?" that may be sensitive but it's not controversial. You have to ask sensitive questions but not controversial ones.

I already received my census, it was in a bag hanging on doorknobs of all the houses in my area-does this mean that they are done hiring and I won't be called to work?
