I decided to interview with Cynthia James, founder of The DocXpert, a notary colleague I have known for a long period of time, in order to give my readers an inside view on the career in-and-outs my job.
Below is the transcript of our question and answer discussion.
Q: How long have you been a notary?
I’ve been a notary for close to 10 years.
Q: What got you interested in becoming a notary?
Q: What got you interested in becoming a notary?
For
many years before becoming a notary, I worked several part-time jobs. A
colleague presented the idea to me and I thought why not!
Q: What do you like most about being a notary? What do you like least?
I love being independent, I love creating new ideas to promote my business and meeting my wonderful clients.
What I like least about being a notary when certain signing
companies refuse to pay a fair rate for the work required; however, those are only
a minority of cases.
Q: What is one of your most memorable notary appointments?
I’ve had many great appointments and a couple of not so great ones. The most pleasant appointment I had was with a lady that was not only very hospitable - she picked the most beautiful rose from her garden and gave it to me.
Q: What is your service area?
I primarily serve the Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego areas. On rare occasions, I have appointments in Orange County as well.

Q: What advice would you give to anyone considering becoming a notary?
My advice for anyone considering becoming a notary is that
they shouldn’t expect to get rich. It’s not that type of gig. They should also
anticipate lulls in business and plan to supplement their income from other
sources.
Q: Where can we connect with you online?
I can be contacted on my Facebook page at www.facebook.com/CJames03
