Successful Notary Tip #6 - Always Be Marketing

June 19, 2008 · 3 comments

Any successful business owner will tell you how important it is to market your business at all times, and to always be on the look out for new and inventive ways to do so.

One of the guerrilla marketing techniques I decided to employ was to use my car as a advertising tool. Because being mobile is the key to my business, I spend almost as much time in my car as I do at home. If fact, my car is my second home.

As I was deciding what method to use - window lettering, door magnets, etc. this brightly colored vehicle drove right past me. I liked what I saw so much I called them right away!

After deciding on the wording and the colors this is what I came up with and I absolutely love it! It's only been a couple of days so no one is knocking down my door quite yet but I am confident I will be receiving business in no time.

I wanted to take a moment to thank all of my subscribers. As you blog you are not always aware of who's in your audience, and I'm a relatively new blogger so I'm learning along the way.

A year ago I didn't even understand what blogging was or what was the point. Then I came across ActiveRain and I've been blogging ever since.

GPS - A Mobile Notary's Best Friend

Just like the cell phone, I do not know how I lived before I got my Tom Tom GPS! Now instead of relying on Mapquest for bad directions, my GPS takes me exactly where I need to go.

I like the Tom Tom XL One because the menus are simple, the screen is large, it has the ability to give live traffic information and it is Bluetooth capable. I also like the portability, it travels with me wherever I go, no matter who's car I'm traveling in.

The only criticism of the Tom Tom is that there is no suspend directions feature so the only way to stop receiving directions is to turn it off or to put it on mute but besides that I'm in love.

Having a GPS is a must have for today's busy mobile notary.

Successful Notary Tip #5 - Naming Your Business

June 7, 2008 · 2 comments

If you've decided to start a notary business, either P/T or F/T, you will want to choose the right name for your business. Opt for a business name that represents you, the services you offer and preferably, a name that is memorable!

There have been times when customers lost my business card and Googled my business name in order to find me. Customers may forget my birth name, LaShon, but the name of my business, The Document Diva, makes an easy impression on their memory.

If you are thinking, "But I'm not that creative," then enlist family and friends for suggestions. Before you know it, you'll have a business name that's catchy and fits your business perfectly.

After you choose the name of your business do not forget to register for a DBA (doing business as) with your county. You may also want to consider a service mark with your state (if available) and then nationally, if it's in your budget. These steps will prevent others from stealing your idea.
