More Than Just a Notary

Along with being a mobile notary I am also a licensed independent insurance agent with Aflac. During my first three years with the company I focused on the business to business aspect of selling insurance but unfortunately I did not have the success I was looking for.

Thankfully, I was able to regain my focus and find a niche of the business that works for me. I am now concentrating on working exclusively with California State Employees.

Some of my clients have worked with the California Department of Rehabilitation, DMV, Metropolitan State Hospital, Department of Probation, and Fish & Game.

I enjoy the opportunity to meet different people and to build personal relationships with my clients.

If you or anyone you know works for any of the many departments in the State of California please feel free to give me a call at (562) 682-9504.

Riding Metro Makes My Day Easier

Due to an increase in the California Apostille service portion of my business I have needed to make more trips to the SOS's office in Downtown Los Angeles.

Thankfully, I have discovered the convenience of riding the Metro Line
into L.A.

Los Angeles is notorious for bad traffic, and where previously you only worried about hitting traffic during the morning and evening rush hours, now there seems to be traffic ALL day, every day.

Taking the train does not lessen the time of the ride by much but it does save on gas and headaches from sitting in bumper to bumper traffic.

According to AAA my $5 day pass would have cost me $12.80 at a little over 56.2 a mile so thanks to the convenience of riding the train I arrive home headache free with my California Apostille in hand.

Apostille to France

Recently, I had the pleasure of completing a couple of California Apostilles going to France for a lovely French women.

In order to continue collecting her French social security (attestation d'existence pour le paiement des retraites from the caisse nationale d'assurance vieillesse) and pension (paiement de votre pension) on a yearly basis she has to return a form to France verifying that she is still alive.

In previous years it was enough for her just to have the form notarized but this year they sent it back stating that they required an Apostille. Because she resides in California, she needed an Apostille from California.

I was happy to be able to provide this service for her, as she is an older woman who does not drive so it would have been very difficult for her to complete this herself. She was very grateful that she was able to find someone to complete this service (Apostille) for her.

LegalZoom Trust & Will Notarization

I applied to become an affiliate with LegalZoom.com because I liked their business model of providing professional legal document preparation without the lawyer prices. The site was created by top attorneys, the most notable being Robert Shapiro.

Last week I had the privilege of notarizing a living trust and will prepared by LegalZoom. I have to say I was very impressed. The documents arrived in a classy black binder embedded with a silver plate with name of the trust. They definitely make you feel like a valued client.

My client was very happy with his experience with LegalZoom, as this was a very nerve-wracking experience for him he especially like the ability to call and easily get his questions answered. He said he would absolutely recommend LegalZoom as an affordable legal alternative.

Successful Notary Tip #2 - Network

One way to increase your chances of success as a notary is to network with other notaries. An easy way to do this is to read and participate on the many popular notary boards, such as Notary Rotary, Go Mobile Notary, and Mobile Notary Network (view MyNotarySource for a comprehensive list). There you will find new and experienced notaries that you can learn from, get your questions answered and exchange marketing ideas with.

When you first log on to a board it is always good to read and get a feel for the board before you post. Once you feel comfortable you can introduce yourself to let your voice be heard. The board I recommend the most for newbies is Mobile Notary Network because the notaries are friendly and helpful.

Another way to network with other notaries is contact local notaries in your area to set up a referral system. Because I have been in contact with other Long Beach notaries, I can easily refer business to them that I am unable to accept. If am presented with an assignment that conflicts with my schedule I tell the caller that I can have one of my associates perform the notarization.

I then proceed to take down their information so the other notary can contact them (this is the best way because when you just give them another notaries' phone number they never seem to call).

Our Long Beach notary group has set up a referral system so if the notary makes $100 and up from the assignment then a 20% referral fee is paid to the referring notary.

Do not be afraid get out there and network you way to success!

Apostille History

Apostille is a French word meaning certification. It is commonly used in English to refer to the legalization of a document for international use under the terms of the 1961 Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents.

Members of the conference adopted a document referred to as an Apostille that would be recognized by all member nations.

Documents sent to member nations, completed with an Apostille at the State of CA level, may be submitted directly to the member nation without further action.
