I applied to become an affiliate with LegalZoom.com because I liked their business model of providing professional legal document preparation without the lawyer prices. The site was created by top attorneys, the most notable being Robert Shapiro.Last week I had the privilege of notarizing a living trust and will prepared by LegalZoom. I have to say I was very impressed. The documents arrived in a classy black binder embedded with a silver plate with name of the trust. They definitely make you feel like a valued client.
My client was very happy with his experience with LegalZoom, as this was a very nerve-wracking experience for him he especially like the ability to call and easily get his questions answered. He said he would absolutely recommend LegalZoom as an affordable legal alternative.

I'm looking through different reviews of legalzoom today and there doesn't seem to be any middle ground. People either give them great reviews or very bad reviews.
It is interesting that the bad reviews seem to be more specific with better details, which makes me suspicious of all the good reviews.
The bad reviews also seem to have real world complaints, like legalzoom staff isn't helpful, legalzoom floods you with unwanted email, or legalzoom has hidden fees.
The good reviews are just general, like legalzoom was really easy and good.
I am even more skeptical as I begin to learn that legalzoom pays referral fees to a great number of website owners, which now seems to be the obvious source of their glowing reviews.

I will readily admit that I have never used LegalZoom myself. The experience I was giving was based on notarizing one of their products.
As far as referral fees, LegalZoom, like many other companies, does offer an affiliate program that pays you for product that is sold through a special affiliate link.
Before you purchase any product it is always best to do your own research, which it appears you are doing.
I used them to incorporate a business. They sent the wrong forms certificates (LLC vs stock certs). I used them for a DBA that they couldn't do because the state wouldn't provide the proper paperwork. They issued a refund without me having to ask for it, so I thought that was a good sign of a ethical company.
When reviews are polarized, it's a good indicator that the company is paying someone to write the good ones.
I think the good reviews of LegalZoom come from LegalZoom or paid referrers.
When reviews are polarized, it indicates that you are on planet earth, knucklehead. Who goes to the trouble of writing a review for something they don't care about either way? You will get the very happy, the very pissed off, and of course the shills.
