Ice Skating at Pershing Square

November 28, 2007 · 2 comments

You know it is winter when ice skating comes to sunny Southern California. Now in its 9th season Pershing Square in Downtown Los Angeles is host to this outdoor event.

The outdoor ice skating rink in Pershing Square is LA's answer to its East Coast equivalent, Rockefeller Center. The the largest rink in the Southland is nestled among skyscrapers and historical landmarks, perfect for a night on the town.

Downtown On Ice is sponsored by the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, the Los Angeles Kings and 9th District City of Los Angeles Council member, Jan Perry. The ice rink is open 7 days a week, including holidays, until January 21, 2007.

Save a $1 on admission when you present a Metro coupon found inside the Metro News brochure.

*Update - We went ice skating on Monday, December 24th. I would definitely recommend giving the outdoor rink a try before it leaves town. It makes a great substitute for Rockefeller Center in New York. Here I am ice skating at Pershing Square. :)

Blog Tip - Don't Just Read, Comment

November 19, 2007 · 11 comments

I blog because I have something to say. I have thoughts and ideas I want to express to the world. Because I feel this way, I assume most other bloggers do too.

Blogging is another form of communication and we know that nothing is more ackward than to feel like you are talking to yourself. The only way to know someone is listening in the blogging world is by comments left on your blog. Whether the comment is long or short, it is always nice to know that someone in cyberspace is listening.

Next time you run across a quality blog why not take a moment to leave a comment? Not only are you making the writer feel good but you will also have the opportunity to leave your name and a link to your website, which will provide a free one-way link to your website (aka free promotion).

Happy commenting and blogging.

Personality Quiz - How Unique Are You?

November 15, 2007 · 0 comments

A new competitor among the social networking sites is eSnips.com.

About us from the website:

"So what is eSnips? eSnips is a social content-sharing site, where you can publish and share any media type. You have practically unlimited flexibility in choosing what you want to share, and with whom, in 5GB of free space.

eSnips is the one place where you can share anything you want, about any topic: your thoughts, your photos, your music, your videos, your flash files, stuff you find on the web, and many other media types. Browse around a bit, with eSnips you can discover new content and people who share your interests."

Mobile Notary Yahoo! Rating

I received notice today that I had been rated 5 stars by Yahoo! Local users. Along with the rating they said:

"Now that you are so highly thought of, why not let everybody know? Print out a super cool poster and let the world know that you're rated at the top of your class Get your poster here."

This is a copy of the poster. Such a cute idea.

Mobile Notart Review - Half Asleep.com

November 13, 2007 · 2 comments

Thanks to a blog by Mel I came across this cool website - Half-Asleep.com, which has a cool Winnie the Pooh theme. Overall it's a cute fun site with recipes, a guest book, and a 100 Acre Personality Quiz.

Based on your answers you are assigned a Winnie the Pooh character. I got Rabbit because it says that I am rather bossy but my friends and family love me anyway. For a simple 12 answer quiz it is pretty darn accurate!

Take the 100 Acre Personality Quiz!

What I don't understand is why the web designer, Stephanie, has a fun, child-like site connected to her adult, PG-13 site. It would make more sense if these two sites were separate, as one has nothing to do with the other.

Besides that misstep, Half Asleep.com is a cute site with personality. Now feel free to take your own personality quiz.

Mobile Notary Review - CutePDF

November 12, 2007 · 0 comments

As always, FREE is my favorite word so when I discovered a FREE PDF writer I was ecstatic. I previously thought my only option was to spend hundreds of dollars on the Adobe product.

Instead of wasting paper I often create PDFs of receipts and confirmations, or if I want to print an e-mail in which I am unable to predetermine how many pages will print I just print to CutePDF instead.

The software is easy to download and install. Once it is installed creating a PDF is just as easy as printing a document because the program is now listed with your other printers.

Others tell me they use PrimoPDF, which I have never used but I assume it works just the same.

2008 California Notary Law Changes

November 7, 2007 · 4 comments

When you are appointed as a notary public you are also appointed as an officer of the state (at least in CA). Your "boss" in a sense becomes the Secretary of State.

With that said, you would think that the State of California would take the time to alert notaries of changes in the law that affect them but we know that logic does not always prevail. So it is up to each individual notary to apprise themselves of any changes in the law.

California Notary Law Changes:

  • Personal knowledge is no longer acceptable for verifying identify of a signer
  • The certificate of acknowledgment is now signed under penalty of perjury
  • A notary applicant must submit a photograph along with their application
  • Notarizing a power of attorney now requires a thumb print
  • When requested by a peace officer investigating a criminal offense, a notary must surrender their journal immediately or as soon as possible if the journal is not present
  • Willful failure to alert the Secretary of State of a change of address or name change is punishable by a fine of $500
  • Willful failure to report loss or theft of a notary journal is grounds for revocation or suspension of a notary commission
*Note - Updated California Jurat & Acknowledgment forms can be found here.

I have to admit that I am a closet geek. New technology excites me. If I love a product I am ready to tell the whole world.

My latest thrill is Fireshot. Fireshot shot is the latest and greatest Firefox extension.

Extensions are add-ons that allow Firefox to act as more than just a web browser. With an extension you search Amazon, Ebay, Wikipedia, ESPN, and more all from the same search box.

Here is a picture of my extensions (click on picture to get a better view):

Fireshot creates pictures of web pages and allows you to edit them. Not only are the captures really crisp but most importantly the extension is FREE!

California Apostille & Notary Spelling Bee

November 5, 2007 · 0 comments

Even if you are a good speller you're still vulnerable to brain freeze; you know how to spell the word but it is just not coming to you. And sometimes you are just one keystroke away from spelling the word correctly.

When potential clients are looking for Apostille or mobile notary services I am sure some have had trouble spelling these words correctly, as they are not apart of everyday language. Many people did not know what a notary or an apostille was until they needed one.

Below are a few variations on the word Notary:

notory, notarie, nnotary, nootary, notery, notary republic, noterepublic, public notery, notorization, and notarially.

And a few variations on Apostille:

apostill, apostile, apostil, apostles, apostils, aapostille, aopstille, and apstille.

Regardless of whether Notary or Apostille is spelled correctly just remember that The Document Diva can handle all of document authentication needs professionally and precisely.

More Than Just Another Day at the Office

November 2, 2007 · 2 comments

In addition to my job as a notary public I also work part-time at a hotel in their business center. The plus factor with this job is that when it's quiet I can pretty much do what I want. So I spend most of my down time surfing the web, marketing, and blogging.

Before I left the house this morning I had prayed that it would be a nice quiet day so I could spend time doing "my stuff". Well, true to the words at Ecclesiastes 9:11,'unforeseen occurrence befalls us all' because I had a pretty steady flow of people today, even though I had hoped the opposite would be the case.

Thankfully, I still had enough time to put up my new affiliate links on a couple of my blogs, find a new blogger template, and apply to be an affiliate with Vista Print.

What really made my day though was the fact that Rhonda Britten, life coach extraordinaire, motivational speaker, and best-selling author, walked into my office.

I have been a fan of Rhonda's since I read her first book Fearless Living, which further motivated me to learn about myself and become a life coach to help others.

I didn't want to be over talkative because she was there working but I did tell her that I used to watch Starting Over faithfully, that I had met her previously at an event, and that my goal still is to become a life coach.

She has a beautiful smile and was very pleasant. She gave me her card on the way out so I think I'll send her thank you in the mail.

Here's to more than just another day at the office!
